Why Bamboo? Why Passchier?
Until now, handlebars have been designed to be strong and stiff as a means to point your front wheel in the desired direction. Unfortunately, anyone who spends a bit on time behind their bars knows that with this stiffness can come serious vibrational stress on the hands, wrists, and arms. This leads at best to riding discomfort, and at worst, to long term nerve, muscle, and tissue damage.
Our approach to riding is that you need to enjoy the journey, especially on those long rides when comfort is key to staying on your bike and getting where you need to go.
After years of development and testing, we created bamboo handlebars that vastly eliminated the rattle of the road and delivered considerable comfort while riding – so much so, they were renamed “Comfortbars”. The natural fibres of the bamboo absorb vibrations as you ride while delivering the perfect, slight amount of flex that takes stress off the hands, wrists, and arms, without compromising control.
Bamboo was not only chosen because of its coveted vibrational absorption properties, but also due to its high tensile strength and sustainable nature.
The most common question we receive about our bars is – “Are they strong” – With the answer to this very important question being, most definitely yes. While they are not designed for aggressive downhill riding or riders over 110Kg, they make a significant and tangible improvement for bikepackers, cruisy trail riders, and commuters.
